Special Issue Collection Classics Sebastião Salgado
A love letter to nature
The Fisheye team is proud to open its new Classic Collection with Sebastião Salgado, the famous photographer who, for more than four decades, has been producing internationally acclaimed work. Other Americas, The Hand of Man, Exodus, or Genesis, his formidable poem tribute to the origins of the planet (which you can discover at La Sucrière, in Lyon, until May 10, 2020, and in the pages of this special issue), are all photographic frescoes that make us aware of the mutations of our world. The ecological emergency, which is manifested today through many disasters, was already in several of his works, as in the creation of the Instituto Terra in 1998, which has allowed the planting of more than 2.7 million trees in Brazil. His images seen around the world – through exhibitions and books designed by his wife Lélia Wanick Salgado – have also inspired generations of young people to become photographers. And if Fisheye remains mainly oriented towards emerging photography and new writings, we are no less attentive to the history of the medium and to the outstanding figures that mark its history. Some, like Sebastião Salgado, have even become academics. True immortals. Classics!
