Raymond Depardon – La Chambre

by Atelier EXB

Signed and numbered edition from 1 to 500

In La Chambre, signed and numbered to 500 copies, Raymond Depardon invites us on a journey to the family farm of Le Garet, where he grew up, through a selection of iconic images taken in color, with a view camera. This large negative format, with its long exposure, transforms each image into a painting, a silent passage in and around this farm that has marked the family’s destiny. The smallest details, seemingly insignificant, become a photographic subject. A chair, a table, a wallpaper pattern, each element is a fragment of the photographer’s memory that transports us through his memories in a permanent tension between past and present.
The work questions this relationship to time and the universal concept of memory, both highlighted in a text by philosopher Jacques Rancière, written especially for the book.

La Chambre is presented as a carefully crafted artist’s book with a stunning form. Each photograph is hand-glued only to the top edge of the paper and positioned in a dry-marked bowl identical to the format of the original negative. The images are thus reproduced to scale 1 and appear like a print glued in an album.
