Gaël Bonnefon – Elegy for the Mundane
For a long time, Gaël Bonnefon has titled all his images About Decline. A body of photographs spanning more than 10 years, which pays tribute to the beauty of the banal and the everyday. He explores the interstices, between the visible and the invisible, where ordinary life reveals its shadows. His work has evolved over the years, but his writing remains consistent: here, landscapes (waterfalls, forests or large deserted areas) vibrate with the same force and intensity as scenes or portraits of people who are worn out, exhausted, out of breath, but still very much alive.Gaël Bonnefon, a graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Toulouse, has exhibited at the Villa Pérochon, 104 (Paris), Arles, Photo Espana, and at the Musée des Abattoirs de Toulouse. His work is present in the collections of the FRAC Midi-Pyrénées, the Château d’Eau and the Kiyosato Museum (Japan)… The first retrospective work of his, Elegy for the Mundane presents the diversity of a work always homogeneous, being able to approach the violence and the decline as much as the softness and the tenderness. Here, the feelings are not fixed but resonate with each other…
