As a publisher, Fisheye publishes visual narratives, visions of authors.

As an extension of the magazine of the same name, Fisheye Éditions aims to give a voice to passionate photographers. Among them are Charlotte Abramow, Théo Gosselin, François Prost, Enzo Lefort, Thibault Lévêque, but also those of Agence France-Presse. All the publications are conceived as a real microcosm.

The eyes of the readers cross and give life to embodied stories. Each of them deals with various and varied subjects and undoubtedly participates in telling the world in its plurality. This is how new perspectives emerge which, beyond inspiring us, help us to apprehend the complexity of contemporary photography.

    AFP, une épopée photo

A sensitive diary of history through AFP photos After a relentless search through the 6 million film photos produced by Agence France-Presse over the course of its history (starting with the creation of the Havas agency in 1835, which became AFP in 1944), Marielle Eudes, director of AFP's special photo projects, and Christophe Calais, the project's editorial director, have come up with a historical and photographic fresco that is largely unpublished. The images they have brought to light - thanks to the complicity of the institution's Documentation Department and the expertise of its photo lab - travel back in time like "time capsules", to quote Michel Poivert, a photography historian who wrote the preface to the book. Questioning the French touch of the agency's reporters, he questions the heritage of humanist photography that the authors sublimate by combining it with the culture of current events. The approximately 300 photos gathered make up an "immediate collective memory that resonates with each of us," Marielle Eudes analyzes.

    Carolina Arantes – First Génération

First Génération reports on several years of research on the expression of a post-immigration identity in Europe. In 2014, Carolina Arantes began First Génération, a long-term project that revolves around the first generation of French women from West Africa. In the desire to offer them more visibility, the photographer went to meet these women. At the heart of the book, their voices cross the pictures and the archival documents used echo each other, and reveal a reality often hidden. In contact with them, the artist's Brazilian traditions - imprinted with theirs in many aspects - then resurfaced in the common past of colonization. "It gave me a broader view of the world. I hope that this work will allow others (especially those not involved) to have a better understanding of our identities, of our humanism. Because times are changing. It is a committed generation that no longer accepts certain mores stemming from a colonialist vision. These women are aware of their own value and the value of African culture in history," she said.

    Thibault Lévêque – Tchachachao

Spontaneous fragments of life Behind the glittery cover of Tchachachao are hidden moments of joy and freedom. Thibault Lévêque crystallized them and then recorded them in a full-page format, as if he wanted to abstract everything that might seem superfluous. Like the reminiscences that are superimposed in the blurred mind, the festive pictures are thus thrown together in a spontaneous way. According to the memories, some vagabond poems slip here and there, on the images or on transparent paper. This haphazard succession is also embodied in the book-object which, by its absence of binding, shows a great flexibility. Like a road book that one would fill in as time goes by, the book opens flat. It immerses us all the better in these fragments of life, sublimated by the eye of the seasoned photographer.

    Enzo Lefort – Olympic Backstage

The athlete and photographer Enzo Lefort describes his unique daily life during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. In Olympic Backstage, Enzo Lefort has documented the backstage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Postponed to the following year due to the pandemic, a singular climate reigns over the Olympic village. With the ban on leaving the hotel outside of training and competitions, and health restrictions intermingled with the stress of the events, photography is a real escape route. In this first book published by Fisheye, Enzo Lefort looks back on this atypical adventure while paying tribute to his teammates. Accompanied by Steven Alexis - creative director and founder of the design studio Bureau Pléiades - the two of them imagine an immersive experience. The photographs are combined with the written word and memories to give a better account of these three weeks of extraordinary preparation, rewarded by the award of a gold medal.

Théo Gosselin – Roll (Second edition)

Following its successful publication in 2021, the book is being republished this year with changes in content and design. 10 years of travel, 10 years of photography. Fisheye presents Théo Gosselin's new book, Roll, with a retrospective look at a decade of photography. Roll gathers about a hundred images, iconic or unknown, from the beginning of the photographer's career to the present day. We discover the maturity of a vision from a generation eager to escape, to travel, to listen to music and to share moments with friends or acquaintances made on the road, simply in passing. With the United States as a backdrop, the photographer invites us to dream of a permanent road-trip in landscapes where the soundtrack seems to impose itself.

    Fisheye Photo Review 2021.22

1.5 kg of photos, 291 photographers, 564 images. For the fifth consecutive year, Fisheye sums up a year of explorations, curations and digital publications in a physical book with a refined aesthetic. In 376 pages, 291 photographers, 564 images and almost 1.5 kg, we take the time to observe. All of these series were featured over this past year, i.e., during the pandemic. A suspended time, where dreamlike images have taken on an unprecedented role in our mostly often direct, even crude, relationship with the world—almost as if it were necessary to find crossroads to transmit a mental projection, to reinvent a relationship with reality in order to better embellish it. The Fisheye Photo Review 2021.22, a true “bible” of contemporary photography, a handbook of inspirations, a guide of rising stars offers unexpected connections between fashion, documentary, intimate and experimental projects. This book gives a unique insight into today's visual arts, and proves that there are no limits to audacity. Whether they work with cyanotype, film or digital, the 300 or so artists published here send us a unique and positive message. No, creativity is not at rest!

    François Prost – Gentlemen’s Club

A festive journey contrasting with the puritanism of these territories. In 2019, François Prost goes on a trip across America. Instead of visiting national parks or exploring big cities, he preferred to take his camera on the trail of strip clubs, from Miami to Los Angeles, in broad daylight. The resulting series, Gentlemen's Club, examines American culture and urbanism in the same breath. Taken from a medium distance, these 200 photographs highlight the stark geometry of American roadside architecture as well as dominant views of gender and sexuality. This work is a continuation of the After Party series, which compiles hundreds of images of nightclub facades in daylight across France. Many thought at the time that these images had been made in the USA (most of these nightclubs draw their architectural and stylistic references from post-war American pop culture). So it was quite natural that the photographer turned to the United States to continue this work.

    Fisheye Photo Review 2020.21

1.8 kg of photographs, 427 photographers, 706 images. This new opus of our annual curation includes a large selection of photographers published on our website fishyemagazine.fr. By its non-linear reading, without chapters and only oriented by the visual sensibilité́, this book will plunge you into a vision. Fisheye's vision of the authors, and the authors' vision of our times. The fruit of thousands of hours of research, it shapes a path that leads us to the limbo of our imagination and our expectations. Because our duty is to make us feel and transmit, we thought Fisheye Photo Review 2019.20 as a guide, a book of inspirations useful to all: photographers in the making and experienced authors, passionate about images and art, explorers, and you who wonder about life... Deciphering the world, yes, but how? In colour, and with surprising angles and experiments. Each of the authors gathered here offers paths of reflection and escape. In his book La Chambre claire, Note sur la photographie (1980), Roland Barthes stated: "Every photograph is a certificate of presence. "Here we bring together artists who affirm their presence in the world and, with them, bear witness to our own.

Charlotte Abramow – Maurice, Tristesse et rigolade (signed and numbered edition)

Charlotte Abramow’s father is an atypical and eccentric character, a doctor and a dreamer. Following a cancer and a coma that will leave him neurological after-effects, he must relearn everything and will not be the same, living in his inner world. But this whimsical character has an accomplice relationship with his daughter. And the progress in the remission of Mauritius, experienced as a true renaissance, will be a great source of energy for Charlotte to carry out this project become like a photographic game between a father and his daughter. Surrealism surfaces in many of the images that, far from sinking us into painful pathos, transport us to a parallel, light and joyful world. In the form of a fairy tale, Charlotte presents her father in the studio in metaphorical tableaux that compose seven chapters: "The Coma", "The Room", "Disorientation", "The Langage", "The Kingdom", "Surrealist interview", "The Next World". This tale doesn't translate a desire to understand this mystery, but to pay homage to it. This edition is signed and numbered on 1000 exemplars.
