Fisheye Photo Review 2021.22
Éditions Fisheye1.5 kg of photos, 291 photographers, 564 images. For the fifth consecutive year, Fisheye sums up a year of explorations, curations and digital publications in a physical book with a refined aesthetic. In 376 pages, 291 photographers, 564 images and almost 1.5 kg, we take the time to observe. All of these series were featured over this past year, i.e., during the pandemic. A suspended time, where dreamlike images have taken on an unprecedented role in our mostly often direct, even crude, relationship with the world—almost as if it were necessary to find crossroads to transmit a mental projection, to reinvent a relationship with reality in order to better embellish it. The Fisheye Photo Review 2021.22, a true “bible” of contemporary photography, a handbook of inspirations, a guide of rising stars offers unexpected connections between fashion, documentary, intimate and experimental projects. This book gives a unique insight into today's visual arts, and proves that there are no limits to audacity. Whether they work with cyanotype, film or digital, the 300 or so artists published here send us a unique and positive message. No, creativity is not at rest!40,00€40,00€ -

François Prost – Gentlemen’s Club
Éditions FisheyeIn 2019, François Prost goes on a trip across America. Instead of visiting national parks or exploring big cities, he preferred to take his camera on the trail of strip clubs, from Miami to Los Angeles, in broad daylight. The resulting series, Gentlemen's Club, examines American culture and urbanism in the same breath. Taken from a medium distance, these 200 photographs highlight the stark geometry of American roadside architecture as well as dominant views of gender and sexuality. This work is a continuation of the After Party series, which compiles hundreds of images of nightclub facades in daylight across France. Many thought at the time that these images had been made in the USA (most of these nightclubs draw their architectural and stylistic references from post-war American pop culture). So it was quite natural that the photographer turned to the United States to continue this work.35,00€35,00€ -

Sandrine Elberg – JÖKULL, la mémoire des glaciers
BooksOn August 18, 2019 in Iceland, a memorial plaque was unveiled in honor of Okjökull (officially decommissioned in 2014), the first disappearing glacier on the subarctic island. The monument A letter to the future was erected on the site of the former glacier marking the first fateful observation due to climate change in the world. On this plaque in gold lettering can be seen the words 415 ppm CO2, referring to the record level of carbon dioxide concentration recorded in the atmosphere in May 2019. According to researchers and scientists, Iceland loses about eleven billion tons of ice every year. Those too fear the disappearance of 400 glaciers on the island within two hundred years if greenhouse gas emissions continue at the current rate. The photographic corpus JÖKULL is a tribute to the sublime, to the glaciers of Iceland with their faults, scars, whirlpools, mills and crevasses. The different views of the glaciers are erected under the moon and the starry skies of the island for an invitation to contemplation and reverie. This work contributes in a poetic way to the memory of the glaciers.60,00€ -

Sandrine Elberg – Cosmic
BooksFrom a literal point of view, it is true that one might be tempted to equate these photographs with a long tradition of scientific observation - images thought to be created with a microscope stand alongside those that could have been made with a telescope. Some of the patterns are like particles saturated with life or energy; some have an organic consistency, while others are like outpourings of matter, electric arcs or molten bodies rising from nothing. Other circular figures could be associated with the portholes of any exploration machine. But what really polarizes Sandrine Elberg's work around scientific principles is not so much the visual evocations, a global physiognomy, as the way she considers the production of these photographs. Indeed, if the attraction for the cosmic environments never fades, it is the whole operating mode which is apprehended in a logic comparable to that of the experimental sciences, especially when it is a question of validating hypotheses oscillating between clairvoyance and surprise, or of hesitating between conscious invention and fortuitous discovery. Sandrine Elberg – M.O.O.N – Mysterious Orbital Object Non-identifield
BooksSandrine Elberg presents her second self-published book dedicated to her photographic work composed of stellar images that she has been making for several years during her travels and experiments in her darkroom. After her first photographic travel book Cosmic, Sandrine Elberg unveils M.O.O.N and invites us to the space travel and to the discovery of a new Moon. Sandrine Elberg's books are unique and unclassifiable objects: a journey into the cosmos, appealing to our collective imagination, to contemplation as well as to reverie. Through M.O.O.N, the artist wanted to pay tribute to Valentina Terechkova, the first woman cosmonaut sent into space. The book also marks the fiftieth anniversary of the first step of man on the Moon on July 21, 1969.38,00€

Frédéric Daubal – Overprint
BooksA dense book of 312 pages for a flow of 560 "overprints" or an "everyday obsession". An intuitive and mocking project where everyone can find themselves. The overprint plays to deconstruct, deride, stare and distort this very stylized world of the magazine and more generally of the printed image. Half iconic, half ironic, Daubal's approach explores the themes of fashion, ecology and the human being in his environment. Her artisanal, even minimalist mode of production, made of recycling, cutting, and all kinds of tinkering, makes us react and think. She invites us to look differently at the subjects she tackles by deconstructing with fantasy the established codes and by colliding glossy paper and popular culture. Creating a dialogue by combining the improbable, provoking questions rather than providing answers. Absurd object or initiator of thought? Fruit of chance or deliberate choice? Meaningless or symbolic? Homage or cheese? A perpetual performance in which she rhymes fashion and onions!40,00€ -

Stéphane Charpentier – The Eclipse
BooksThe Eclipse offers a panorama of photographs by Stéphane Charpentier in silver black and white, captured over the course of a decade in Greece, a country reflecting a world plunged into economic, political and human crises. But more than a documentary or an intimate essay, The Eclipse reveals different levels of reading and meaning. The book combines poetic images of a suffering humanity, with an iconography that is both symbolic and dreamlike, almost metaphysical. Interludes composed of mosaics of rephotographed prints evoke this density and this contemporary chaos, while the last sequence of images opens onto natural, virgin and dazzling spaces, from which all the light finally springs. The texts in English and French are transcriptions of recorded dialogues and form a background sound on this present torn between struggle and hope.38,00€ -

Tabitha Soren – Surface Tension
BooksThe photographs that make up Tabitha Soren's book, Surface Tension are 20x25 room reproductions of her digital tablet screen. In the background, behind the fingerprints that cover the latter is a corpus of images from both her internet search history, the social networks she consults and the text messages she receives. Pictures of forest fires, protests, police repression, pictures that constitute the news and that we consult daily and often in a mechanical way. His artistic gesture highlights the constant interaction we have with our phone and evokes the collective reality of millions of humans constantly attracted by their screens and who, by dint of receiving an incessant flow of information in constant renewal, gradually forget that they also participate in the world physically and collectively. Surface Tension will be exhibited at Mills College Art Museum (September 2021 - December 2021), Pier 24 Photography (January 2022 - September 2022), and San Francisco Airport (October 2021 - April 2022). Soren has been a multidisciplinary visual artist for over 25 years, long interested in the intersection of culture, politics, the body, and psychology. She lives and works in California, and her work has been included in numerous private collections around the world (including museum collections such as LAC MA, The Getty, Harvard Art Museum, New Orleans Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Art, Eastman Museum of Photography, Museum of Contemporary Photography, Pier 24). The book is accompanied by an essay written by Jia Tolentino, a writer for The New Yorker and author of the collection of essays entitled "Trick Mirror: Reflections on Self-Delusion."29,00€ -

Philippe Jarrigeon – Play
BooksWhether still life, portraits, landscapes, architecture or fashion photographs, Philippe Jarrigeon revisits his archives and composes, for his first book with the obvious title "PLAY", an original sequence that covers more than 10 years of photographic practice. Adept at side stepping he has fashioned a singular and colorful universe, in which it is a question of the aesthetics of the TV sets of the 90s, English cinema, fun and fantasies. His personal vision of pop culture in short. Under the artistic direction of the Beda Achermann studio, the design of the book refers to the magazines from which these images come. The sequence is constructed according to a rainbow of colors and creates what the artist calls "a novel nuancier".38,00€
