Raphael Lugassy’s absurd still lifes

Strange inventions, incongruous and animal models, still lifes photographed with a blinding flash… The creations of Raphaël Lugassy immerse us in a deliciously surrealist universe. Spontaneous, the photographer of Finnish and Moroccan origin likes to improvise, and to surround himself with strange objects to focus his shots: “I pay attention to the composition, the forms and the colours. I first perceive the abstract dimension before the subject itself. I like to bring a twist to my images to have fun and avoid boredom”, he explains. With an unfailing sense of humour and an assumed kitsch, Raphaël Lugassy turns his commissions into creative and disconcerting works. A collection of pictures with saturated colours where references to pop culture intersect with bizarre sculptures and other crazy details.
