Jerry Pigeon: seeking emotion

“I need to bond with my subjects. To me, a photoshoot is like a dialogue between two persons”, Jerry Pigeon tells us. This portrait photographer and photo reporter from Montreal first worked in video, before turning to still imagery. In his commissions like his personal series, he seeks emotion, favouring a minimal approach and a natural light. “It usually inspires me more than the subject himself”, he confides.  In his visual explorations, the artist plays with colours and black and whites, and deconstructs the medium. “I try to go past its fixed quality to materialise the image in another way. It enables me to see my work in a new light”, he adds. Soft focus, intimate portraits, and surreal montages fill Jerry Pigeon’s universe. A truly poetic world.
