“I am a floral designer and photographer. I create bouquets for weddings and events, but also for cinema and television. I also receive commissions to photograph editorial campaigns – I like straddling both worlds”, Doan Ly tells us. Self-taught, the artist has started capturing still lifes to present her work to future clients. “I never thought I would discover such a meaningful form of expression”, she adds. Today, the designer creates dreamlike photographic paintings, where flowers, leaves and fruit mingle with human bodies. “I want the images to transport me, to magnify that quiet moment of something fragile and tender turning into something powerful. That place for me is a bit surreal, a bit familiar yet far like a yearning, a bit exultant, and if possible, a bit silly”, she says. Inspired by the movements of Pina Bausch, the sensuality of Marilyn Minter or the colors of William Eggleston, Doan Ly’s images embody delicacy and refinement.
