What does it mean for an American to be “a southerner”? This is the question that inspired Johnathon Kelso’s series God Is My Witness shortly after the birth of his son. Kelso, who has always lived in the south of the United States, asked himself what constitutes, or shapes the imagery of this part of the country. God Is My Witness is a series at once contemplative and documentary, through which the photographer tries to understand the roots of his culture.
