Yorgos Yatromanolakis: "The Splitting of the Chrysalis"

When he started a four year residency, in Crete, Greek photographer Yorgos Yatromanolakis had to face his past, ans return to his hometown. Isolated in the countryside, on an Island, he had to confront his trauma and his memories. By wandering around in nature, he started the long process of healing himself. “A field of action was created within me”, the photographer tells us. “A space full of transformative dynamics, a place of becoming”. The Splitting of the Chrysalis & the Slow Unfolding of the Wings tries to define this new energy. The series present a dreamlike universe, oscillating between reality and fantasy, a space connected to the cosmos. “These photographs are part of a notebook, constructed through this experience. They attempt to capture the cycle of an internal process of metamorphosis”. The pictures, often taken at dawn or dusk, reveal landscapes lit by mysterious lights. A world stuck between dream and illusion.
